      specifically here, my original implementation maintained a bidirectional mapping between objects and IDs because i was generating my own IDs

    new implementation is based on Unity’s instance IDs which you can get from any object, but can’t look up objects from them

      so a unidirectional mapping (clojure map) is simpler and solves the problem
