        @geoffreylitt also, it depends. if its for an art/research thing then yeah go off, flex. but if its something load bearing that needs to work 100% of the time? that others need to maintain? you need to be really careful and really mindful about how clever you get, i think

      @geoffreylitt its also subjective. like, arguably nas.sr/ajeeb-coroutines/ is a "clever hack" but its based on sound principles, minimal (< 300 LOC), and can bear a load. i developed the logic to a 360 video wall installation based on it and it held up admirably.

    @geoffreylitt put another way: being "clever" almost certainly means taking a step backwards somewhere, in eg maintainability, robustness, tooling. if your hack wins you one step forward, its not worth it. it really needs to be two or three steps to justify the cost of deviating from the norm.
