    @impiaaa this is amazing. ive gotten as far as a virtual stack, but i was stumbling at reconciling branches (the hard part lol) and thinking about surpluses/deficits is v helpful. i will be studying this! thank you!

      @impiaaa yeah its kind of bizarre to me that there isnt clear literature on this. it strikes me as neither trivial nor niche... so you'd think there'd be a clear best approach already, but i guess not?
