    full disclosure: i was completely guilty of this for a lot of my life. ive written code seriously for ~18 years, i have one hammer in my brain and its easy to see nails where there are none. education (i studied computer science) and the market encourage this.

      what happened? i had the privilege of attending art school and being forced to think about *why* i was making things. it basically saved my soul, i was very much on track to become another tech solutionist because its all i had ever been exposed to/rewarded for

        investors/corps/military benefit from a class of well paid nerds who are content to solve little puzzles and not ask questions. no one else benefits. i am sure the avionics code for a reaper drone is full of brilliant stuff, but that code still *should not have been written*

          i love solving little puzzles! its all i want to do! its all i am good at! but the world is more complicated than little puzzles! and my skills *do not* translate to every problem space. this should be obvious, but im sure someone reading this thread thinks im wrong. im not.
