          there's something really haunting about the "join the conversation" banners in the ad to me. people in real protests have real demands and they often reveal uncomfortable truths about society. people wouldn't be out in the streets if everything was fine.

        the signs you see on the street during the Lebanese revolution are demanding the government resign, insulting the political class, and rejecting capitalism and sectarianism. this shit is specific and it has sharp edges. it's in your face and often offensive. people are angry.

      "join the conversation" is the hyper-corporate sanitized version of popular anger. it means absolutely nothing. it asks for nothing, it expects nothing, it challenges nothing, it offends no one. "join the conversation" is an intellectual vacuum in response to a raised fist. fuck
