    @cemerick @deech a few things, 1) i agree with @cemerick that people most affected are not heard 2) english has a general global hegemony and ive gotten the sense from people back home that they "may as well learn it" to be hireable in the world, so its presence in PL becomes a part of that

      @cemerick @deech 3) there isnt a clear way forward. so even for people who care (i lose sleep over this) there isnt an obvious solution to point to/advocate for. im working on some stuff, but its theoretical and far flung...

        @cemerick @deech but its a mistake to think that it does not hinder some people (non-english speakers) and privilege others (english speakers). thats simply not true. its a hurdle people manage to overcome, but that does not mean the hurdle is not there.
