    @n1ckfg if i had to guess, in the 90s it was more complete than JavaScript and easier to embed into applications than Ruby or Perl, and Lua hadn't quite made landfall in the US yet? reputation for "easy one" follows from ubiquity, nice syntax, dynamic types?
